A Handmade Historical Re-creation of the "Iron Mistress" Bowie Knife.  (History Lives)
Only 200 of this Knife will ever be made.
All 200 of this knife have been sold! No stock left!
"As we stated when we made the Musso Bowie knife aka Primitive Bowie knife."  See Below...
"There have been many knives made that are believed to be a Bowie knife.  Well we want to make this one thing clear.  All we are interested in the knife (knives) carried personally by Jim Bowie."

There has been allot of controversy surrounding these knives.  Many historians believed it was made by Jim Bowie and there are some who now believe it was originally made for Bowie by James Black, a well known and renowned knife maker in Arkansas.

Next Historian Rick wanted to move to a knife most collectors and knife lovers could really appreciate.  The "Iron Mistress"

Well let me just let you read what Rick Baer had to say.

"Ever since I was ten years old and saw the Hollywood movie by Warner Brothers "The Iron Mistress" with Alan Ladd as Jim Bowie I was hooked on this knife.  Ironically, the Iron Mistress knife has had a very unique story that makes it worthy of the mysteries surrounding the historical knife James Bowie owned.  The knife was made by the prop department of Warner Brothers for the film.  In those days props were not kept as souvenirs or collectables but owned by the studio.  With the film completed the props were placed into storage but not for long.  This knife prop would be rented for all of the following productions, John Wayne's "The Alamo", Republic Pictures "The Last Command", Desilu's "The Adventures of Jim Bowie" television series and even Disney's "Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier".  Miraculously, Hollywood kept using the same prop for Jim Bowie's knife in films about him.  Not until recent years as historians have done greater research into the knife have films begun to depict a more historical version, see the first knife in our series.  Musso Bowie Knife (And all 200 are sold).
I have based this design not on Wellmans "The Iron Mistress" book description but more on the Hollywood film version.  Why?  It is the movie prop that is the most associated with the legend of Jim Bowie.  Who can forget the scene portraying James Black and his forging of the knife or the scene depicting the very real Sandbar duel where, in the film Bowie uses the blade for the first time.  The legend among Bowie collectors of the elusive prop is almost as great as the legend of Bowies historical knife.
I hope you enjoy my take on the design as well as the great attention to detail shown by Generation2 in the construction of this great blade."

From historian Rick J. Baer

A Handmade Historical Re-creation of the "Musso" Bowie Knife  (Yes the Legend is Back, in Version 2), (History Lives)
There have been many knives made that are believed to be a Bowie knife.  Well we want to make this one thing clear.  All we are interested in the knife (knives) carried personally by Jim Bowie.
Now that this is cleared, we thought it best to make this version owned by Mr. Joseph Musso first. Why?  It is believed this is the knife carried by Bowie for the rst of his life and the knife used in his defense of the Alamo.
There has been allot of controversy surrounding this knife.  Many historians believed it was made by Jim Bowie and there are some who now believe it was originally made for Bowie by James Black, a well known and renowned knife maker in Arkansas.
So where do we at Generation2 fall?  It does not matter.  All that matters is that there has been a need for a historical, working re-creation of this highly sought after knife.  And we believe we have done our best.

Where did we get the plans, detail and history to re-create this knife?  Well have great customer on the east cost who is a Bowie fan and has done allot of research on this knife.  He also has the details for the other knives that Bowie carried.  Does this mean we will do the other knives as well?  Hmmm, maybe.

Since this is a historical copy we felt it necessary not to put any other markings other than what was on the original, but it will come with a laminated card with each knife with a brief history and stating this is "only one of 200 to ever be made".

This is and will be a highly collectable knife, but we felt that it need to be a working knife, not just a stainless steel generic version as many are that have been made.

(From Clyde Hollis Generation 2)
"After so many years you ask why did Generation 2 remake this knife?  Well after many e-mails, phone calls from many people asking us to please re-do this knife (and believe me it was not easy) we said OK.
But I (Clyde) struggled on how to make this knife and not hurt the value of the Original 200.

The last thing I wanted was to upset those who were blessed and fortunate to get the original 200 and as many of you know how the value went up.  I will not mention the customer's name but I get receive a call from someone who was looking for one of these knives and someone on Ebay was selling theirs.  The knife went for over $600.00, and the original cost was $199.00.

So you can see where I struggled.  So after much feedback on several Forums and Brain Storming with John Cooper (one of Generation 2's Retailers) it seemed good and it seemed the right time to come back with the Legendary Bowie Knife.

The feedback was consistent that we make it a Version 2 (and the Authenticity Card will reflect that) and make the knife in the original size.

Yes the knife is higher than the original but the cost of steel and especially Brass is allot higher so we have opted to make it the 14" long blade like the original and to make the blade ever so slightly curved as the original.
And make it highly Collectible by only making 100 per year.  And again each Authenticity Card will reflect the Year as well."

Frontiersman's Long Knife or American Rifleman's Knife (History Lives)
This type of long knife was sometimes called a rifleman's knife since it was carried by the civilians that fought for independence. Though they were large as a fighting knife, they were also used on a daily basis to perform the countless camp chores that living in the field brought. This knife might be early cousin of the bowie and Arkansas toothpick. Perfect for the collector of American knives. High carbon well-tempered blade.

To many knife historians it is a knife that I believe is roughly based off the Searles/Fowler Bowie and the Stafford/Searles Bowie knives. There are some similarities with these knives and the one we reproduced.  We are not saying that the Frontiersman's knife above is what these two Bowie knives were made from, but from the similarities it is easy to see how knives evolved and how many looked somewhat alike.

Searles/Fowler Bowie

Stafford/Searles Bowie

Which is it?  Who can say?  We are not trying to debate history just to present some facts and let you decide.

It is also a great knife for field use.  Hunting, camping, fishing, etc.

It is made from tempered 5160 carbon steel.  Has a full tang that is peened over top of the end cap of the handle.  A period scabbard is also included.

A Handmade Historical Re-creation of the "Searles" Bowie Knife. (History Lives) Only 200 of this Knife will been made! Pre-Order Now!
Daniel Searles proverbially carved himself into Bowie history when he made several Bowie knives for Rezin Bowie, brother of James.

Daniel Searles was a gunsmith and knife maker during the 1830's in Baton Rouge Louisiana.  Rezin Bowie commissioned him to make several exquisite knives that Rezin later gave away as gifts.  One he presented to Josiah Seth Stafford of Alexandria and the other recreated here was presented to H.W. Fowler of the U.S. Dragoons.  The original of our Searles knife is currently on display at the Alamo.

It seemed that Rezin enjoyed grabbing a bit of personal attention cashing in on his brothers fame after the Sandbar duel by sporting well crafted custom knives.  These silver adorned fancy weapons were later presented as gifts by Rezin to notable worthies of the day.  Rezin would spend much of his later life putting various spins on the origin of the first known Bowie knife usually not realizing that those interested were really only concerned with what Jim used in the Sandbar duel and might later have carried in defense of the Alamo.

The Searles Bowie definitely has its place in history however by being the Alamo display knife and having the undisputed refute of being owned by a Bowie at one time.  It may be the only "confirmed" knife in existence that historians are sure "was" owned by a Bowie.  Although never provable it is possible it may have been a Searles.

Enjoy this fine reproduction of the most viewed knives in history on display at the Alamo.
