The Pro Cutter - The Ameryu
Family of Competition katana sword
The design of the Ameryu family is in response
to requests made by certain sansei and customers for a Tsunami/Dragon type
of blade that would incorporate some of our new improvements and a narrower
sori.
The Ameryu family of swords is a return
to origins. Here is a sugata taken from the earlier days of the samurai
sword. After the Mongol invasion of Japan, a call was made for more
robust swords. The tosho of the era responded by producing a sword
to match the challenge. In the style of the Kamakura and Nanbokucho
period, here is a sword of authority. The Ameryu cutter is wide at
the machi, wide at the yokote, little niku, chu kissaki, and a striking
masame jihada in the folded versions.
Each of the new sword families has 6 basic configurations.
The blade "design" is identical in each configuration within that family.
The difference between each is the blade material, the number of folds,
and/or the level of intricacy of the furniture.
All Ameryu series: 0.6 inch sori - Standard
length - Blade 28.0 or 29.5 inches, available with or without Bohi at NO
extra cost - Handle 10.5 inches.
All models have a natural horn throat cap.
All folded blade models have a silk embroidered
and fully lined sword bag. Non-folded models come with Last Legend's dojo
bag, a dark blue fully lined cotton sword bag.

There are so many options that we do not have

The Pro Cutter - The Kumoryu
Family of Competition katana sword
The design of the Kumoryu family follows in the
footsteps of the Tsunami/Dragon type of blade but with Last Legend's latest
improvements and keeping the one-inch sori.
The Kumoryu Family - In the Kumoryu family of
blades we find the master of the cutting swords. Based on Nanbokucho
period sugata with little taper from machi to yokote, an outstanding masame
jihada in the folded versions and chu kissaki. This robust sword sports
a 1.1 inch sori, little niku and torizori for superior cutting ability.
Each of the new sword families has 6 basic configurations.
The blade "design" is identical in each configuration within that family.
The difference between each is the blade material, the number of folds,
and/or the level of intricacy of the furniture.
All Kumoryu series: 1.1 inch sori . Standard
length - Blade 27.5 or 29.0 inches, available with or without Bohi at NO
extra cost - Handle 11.0 inches.
All models have a natural horn throat cap.
All folded blade models have a silk embroidered
and fully lined sword bag. Non-folded models come with Last Legend's dojo
bag, a dark blue fully lined cotton sword bag.

The Battle Blade - The Mikusa Family of Competition
katana sword
First off, the battle geometry is NOT designed
for non martial artists to replay their favorite samurai movie. They are
designed to withstand the pressure of harder targets than the Pro Cutters.
The design of the Mikusa family firmly departs from all previous Last Legend
blades in all design criteria's.
The Mikusa Family - The Mikusa family of
blades are similar to the Yashima family. This is a Keicho Shinto
style blade with an aggressive sori. Here is a quick fighter with
a light feel. This blade is torizori with full niku, a striking masame
hada in the folded blade, a dramatic taper from machi to yokote, and a
longer chu kissaki. This blade will combine the cutting ability of
the pro cutter series with the agility of the battle series.
Each of the new sword families has 6 basic configurations.

The U-no-kubi-zukuri - The
Taketoshi Family of Competition katana sword
Taketoshi family - U-no-kubi-zukuri Cormorants
neck (the shape) with 0.6 inch sori - Fashioned after the Naginata
Naoshi, this blade has naginata-hi and a slanted shinogiji similar to those
produced by Nobukuni, Heianjo Nagayoshi, and Sanjo Yoshinori. It
is similar in appearance to the naginata pole arms that were converted
into use as katanas by samurai of the 16th century. This sword has
a beautiful masame jihada in the folded versions, an o-kissaki, and a light,
well-balanced demeanor.
Each of the new sword families has 6 basic configurations.
The blade "design" is identical in each configuration within that family.
The difference between each is the blade material, the number of folds,
and/or the level of intricacy of the furniture.

The Battle Blade - The Yashima
Family of Competition katana sword
First off, the battle geometry is NOT designed
for non martial artists to replay their favorite samurai movie. They are
designed to withstand the pressure of harder targets than the Pro Cutters.
The design of the Yashoma family firmly departs from all previous Last
Legend blades in all design criteria's.
The Yashima Family - The Yashima family
of blades are well balanced and quick in the hand. They are Keicho
Shinto style blades with some koshizori, with masame hada in the folded
blades, full niku, a significant taper from machi to yokote, and a longer
chu kissaki. In the hand, the Yashima feels like a Kamakura era fighting
blade that has been reduced in length for the Shinto fighting styles.
Each of the new sword families has 6 basic configurations.
The blade "design" is identical in each configuration within that family.
The difference between each is the blade material, the number of folds,
and/or the level of intricacy of the furniture.

Miyamoto Musashi Daito and
Wakizashi
made by Paul Chen
Miyamoto Musashi, arguably the most famous swordmaster
in Japanese history, fought more than 60 duels before retiring and writing
his famous treatise on swordplay, the "Book of Five Rings". Musashi was
well above average height and his Daito (long sword) was made to match
his size. Development of the two-sword style of swordplay, with the Daito
(long sword) and Wakizashi being used together, is credited to Musashi.
Fittingly, we are able to offer both pieces with matching mounts. The Hanwei
reproduction of the Musashi Daisho (1016-GT, 1017-GT) is faithful to the
original down to the famous double-ring iron tsubas. The Musashi Katana
is mounted in black, with subtle copper inlays in the saya, and the tsuka-ito
is in leather over ray skin. The blade is hand-forged in high-carbon steel
and is edge-tempered using the traditional clay tempering method, resulting
in a distinct hamon. Edge hardness is 60HRC, back hardness 40HRC. The grip
is double-pegged to the tang for safety.

Golden Oriole Katana and
Wakizashi made by Paul Chen
It has been said that in simplicity lies great
beauty, an axiom stunningly validated by the Golden Oriole Katana (1018-GT)
and Wakizashi (1019-GT). The story told by the stunning brass tsubas is
of a mantis stealthily stalking a cricket, unaware that he is himself being
stalked by the Golden Oriole. The deeply lacquered blue of the scabbards
is repeated in the Japanese cotton handle wraps, an the Oriole appears
again on the kashiras (pommels).
Unmistakenly Hanwei quality, the over length (14")
grip of the katana is secured to the long tang by double bamboo pegs. This
longer handle gives a superb balance to the sword, allowing it to move
freely and very quickly.

Blind Warrior Mark II Katana
Sword and Tanto
In answer to customer requests, Last Legend has
created a katana with a fully tempered blade disguised as a simple walking
stick. That was only the first part of the requests; what the customers
really wanted was a walking stick built to Last Legend standards, and here
it is.
Customers have also requested that the wood be
changed to black instead of the lighter tone of the prototypes, so they
did, and as usual, the customers were right. It has made the sword very
striking in appearance with the contrast of the polished steel bands and
the black wood.
So what makes the Blind Warrior better than
its competition? Let's run down a list:
1. As
you know, when Last Legend says "full-tang" they don't mean a thin threaded
rod (which in itself would be an improvement over other walking sticks).
The blade is 27" long, but the full blade material is 38" long; which translates
into 11" of blade used as a tang.
2. One of the
big complaints from customers has been handles cracking and breaking, resulting
in blade separation when something is struck with competitor's swords.
To cure this problem, Last Legend has not only surrounded the blade with
extreme hardwood, but it is also double-pinned (hidden by the second steel
band) and epoxied. Additionally, what appears to be decorative banding
is, in actuality, metal reinforcing bands for the handle and saya.
3. Handled
the competition, and worried about it slipping out of your hand and ending
up with a hand full of sharp blade? Last Legend thought about that. Thats
why the Bland Warrior is completely covered in leather for grip retention.
4. Because of
the weight of the full tang in the handle, this sword has amazing balance
(balance point is just 2.5" down the blade from the handle), similar
to a high priced competition katana, and unknown in any similar swords.
Versus competitors with a balance point at 9.5" down the blade.
5. The
blade on this sword is made of a modified 1060 carbon steel. Last Legend
has extreme confidence in this blade because it is made from the same steel,
and forged similarly to, the blade on their Skofnung Battle Sword. Although
the sword was not intended for Goza cutting, being the rascals we are,
we had to see if it would cut through a Goza. So, following the required
preparation, we faced off with our opponent. If you've ever cut Goza you
know the delightful feeling of seeing the part of the Goza that was just
severed fall to the ground, and the Blind Warrior accomplished this with
a diagonal cut; the only walking stick sword we have ever seen capable
of performing this feat and still remaining intact. Although Last Legend
does not condone Goza cutting with this sword, we just had to find out
if it could, because if it can accomplish that, it can surely handle any
light duty work you may have in mind.
6. The
entire sword is handmade, forged, and tempered. In addition, the blade
is hand polished to a high finish.
The 14" matching tanto is constructed using
the same rugged specifications, including the full-handle tang and steel
reinforcing bands.
