Samurai Sword Katana, Wakizashi and Tanto
Displaying features usually found only on
original Samurai swords, these pieces provide a unique opportunity to own
a katana of a quality usually found only in private collections, museums
or in the Orient.
Steel in the Blade is ASSAB K-120 Powdered
Steel from Sweden, with a hand engraved "Fudo" horimono from the "Edo"
peiod. The Blade is groved on both sides.
Tsuka-ito-silk ito made in Japan
Tsuba: Made of copper, relief is the
figure of the Guardian Warrior & Heaven Hall & gold plating partially.
Saya ito: Best quality imported from
Japan. Red Lacquered with black ring-carved section at the Sageo.
Habaki: 2 piece combined type, can
muff-coupling, the inner is made of copper and the outter is made of brass
with gold plating.
Fuchi, Kashira, Kjori, Koiguchi and Kurigata:
Made from blackened bronze with decoration in the reliefs and selective
detailing of copper, silver and gold.
Saya: Bright red, convex-strip on the
small part of the front.

Tiger Folded Samurai Sword
Katana, Wakizashi and Tanto
The Tiger Folded/Layered Blade Katana is crafted
at the Dalian, Hanwei (China) forge of Paul Chen.
The tsuba (guard) is a finely-rendered raised
standing tiger, with bamboo on the reverse side. The tsuka (grip) is genuine
top-grade ray skin-covered wood, attached securely to the nakago (tang)
with bamboo pegs. The tsuka-ito (grip wrapping) is Japanese premium black
cotton cord, wrapped very tightly in the traditional pattern to display
the ray skin and the menuki. The saya is finished in gloss black lacquer.
The blades are made of ASSAB K-120C powdered Swedish
steel. They start with a 250 layer steel billet, during the forging possesses
the steel is folded twice to create 1000 layers. Although these blades
are highly polished, there is no denying the visibility of the 1,000 layers.
Forged in the maru-gitae style, the sword blade
is tempered using the traditional clay process dating from 700 A.D., producing
a hard cutting edge of 60 RC while maintaining the body of the blade at
40 RC hardness for resilience and shock absorption.
Other authentic details include a multi-layered
lacquer finished wood saya (scabbard), with a buffalo horn kojori (end
cap), koi-guchi (throat cap) and kuri-gata (wrapping cord eyelet). A kenye
(fine-cloth bag) and the traditional sword maintenance kit are included,
the latter containing blade oil, rice papers, oiling cloth, a powder ball
for blade polishing, and a brass awl and hammer. All intricate work is
painstakingly done by hand with only perfection being acceptable.

Orchid Folded Samurai Katana
Sword, Wakizashi and Tanto
Each piece in the Orchid Series (SH1207, SH1208,
& SH1209) has a hand-forged & folded K120C powder steel blade,
differentially tempered using a traditional claying method to produce an
HRC60 edge, HRC40 back. The temper line (hamon) is evident and prominent
and the grain pattern (hada) shows distinct layers. The saya are deeply
lacquered in blue. High quality ray skin (same) is used on the tsuka, and
the tsuka-ito and sageo on all three pieces are woven from premium Japanese
cotton. The tsuba of the katana and wakizashi is of blackened iron, with
an Orchid and Butterfly decoration inlaid in silver, brass and copper.
The scabbard mouth (koiguchi) and cord knob (kurikata) are of buffalo horn,
and the fuchi, kashira and kojiri are of bronzed iron with silver and gold
detailing. The blade collar (habaki) is a one-piece brass construction.
The katana and wakizashi feature a medium-length (chu) kissaki.

with the Kurigata being polished buffalo horn.

Tiger Elite Folded Katana
The Tiger Elite Katana has been re-designed from
kissaki to kashira. Utilizing a hand forged and folded Performance Series
katana blade and some of the finest fittings available, the Tiger is equally
at home as a cutting blade or showpiece. The K120C powder steel blade is
differentially tempered using the traditional claying method which produces
a HRC60 edge and HRC40 back. This allows for superior edge holding and
cutting ability while allowing the blade to absorb the shock of a blow.
The hamon (temper line) and hada (folding pattern) are very prominent.
The koshirae (fittings) are all made from blackened bronze and detailed
in gold. The tsuba (guard) is made from blackened iron with a stalking
tiger motif. The same is of the finest ray skin while the tsuka-ito (handle
wrap) and sageo (scabbard cord) are made from top-quality japanese cotton.
The Tiger is supplied with a protective cloth bag and traditional maintenance
kit.

Ronin Katana
CAS Hanwei Partner Exclusive
The Story of the 47 Ronin is one of the most
celebrated and influential tales of the Samurai from the Edo period. Lord
Asano was a powerful Daimyo ordered by the Shogun to entertain guests of
the Imperial Family. The highest ranking master of protocol, Kira, was
given the task of teaching Asano, among others, proper matters of etiquette
in this task. Lord Asano and Kira quickly grew to dislike each other and
the teacher insulted his student at every opportunity. No longer able to
contain himself, Asano drew his sword upon Kira, wounding him in the attack.
This act led to Asanos ordered suicide (seppuku) and the confiscation
of his property. On December 14, 1702, nearly one year after Asanos death,
47 of Asanos men (now Ronin), descended upon the mansion of Kira to exact
their revenge. After a fierce battle, the Ronin demanded that Kira commit
seppuku for his transgressions against their former master. When he refused
he was beheaded. For their actions the Ronin were themselves sentenced
to death by seppuku. They are buried together at the Sengakuji, offering
a true testament to the loyalty inherent in the Samurai.
Our Ronin Koshirae Katana captures the spirit
of Lord Asanos 47 Ronin. The blackened iron Tsuba depicts Asanos followers
on their vengeful march. The blade is hand forged & folded Swedish
powder steel with Hi in a traditional Shinogi Zukuri style.
