Lucerne Sword (originates
1350-1370) Type XVa (History Lives)
Pommel-type: J, Cross-style: 8, Dates: c. 1350-1370.
Collection: Royal Armouries.
The original was found in the Lake of Lucerne
in Switzerland. The find condition was poor, with a lot of pitting
beneath the patina.
This form of sword seems to have been fashionable
in the 14th century, judging by the number of survivors.
It has the look of our Historical Black Prince
but with more of a distill taper in the blade, and fine curves in the pommel
as you will see below.
The Battle of Sempach was fought very near this
lake, July 9, 1386 between Duke Leopold III of Austria and the Swiss Confederation.
Leopold assembled his army at Sursee, about 5
miles down from Sempach, surrounded Sempach and on the same day started
to march towards the expected relief army. He did not take the direct route
to Lucerne, but rather turned east. He must have known that an enemy army
was approaching from there.
The Confederation army had presumably assembled
at the bridge over the Reuss River at Gislikon. It marched from there,
hoping to catch Leopold still at Sempach where he could be pressed against
the lake. Around noon, the two armies made contact near Sempach, close
to the village of Hildisrieden.
As the knights of Leopold's army approached, they
dismounted and sought to storm the high ground. Their marksmen then took
the Swiss under heavy fire. Leopold reasonably believed that the Swiss
army lay before him, and engaged in battle before his rear units moved
up from the approaching column. But it was only the confederate's advance
guard that they were fighting.
The Lucerne sword is another Generation2 Historical
Recreation to commerate historical events,
and could have been the style of sword used in
the Battle Sempach.

Teutonic Knight Crusader
Sword and Matching Dagger
The First Crusade was launched in 1095
by Pope Urban II with the dual goals of liberating the sacred city of Jerusalem
and the Holy Land from Muslims and freeing the Eastern Christians from
Muslim rule.
The Second Crusade was lauched in 1147
under the Kings Louis VII and Conrad III respectively, but failed to win
any major victories, launching a failed pre-emptive siege of Damascus,
an independent city that would soon fall into the hands of Nur ad-Din,
the main enemy of the Crusaders .
The Third Crusade was issued by Gregory
VIII in 1187, after Jerusalem had been recaptured by the armies of Islam
under Saladin.
Philip and Richard with their armies, departing
only in July, 1190, crossed the sea and, after stops at Sicily and Cyprus,
landed at Acre—Philip in April and Richard in June—where they joined the
siege, and the city surrendered in July, 1191. Philip departed for France
in August, leaving Richard in control. The terms of the surrender of Acre
included a prisoner exchange and the return, by Saladin, of the True Cross,
which he had captured with Jerusalem in 1187.
Why did Gen2 use the 12th Century medieval sword
to make this sword?
For one, its simple cruciform design made it
historically popular form many years 900-1600 A.D. and it was used by many
European countries.
Second, the length of the blade made it not only
easy for ground fighting but also made it long enough to use from horse
back as well.
KEY FEATURES:

12th Century Medieval Sword,
Late Viking Sword (History Lives)
Twelfth Century Sword - (Original: c. 1100 - 1250
Northern Europe, Museum and Art Gallery, Glasgow.)
A well known leading expert on medieval swords
comments that the original could be from as early as 1100 to as late as
1250. And we trust that he should know.
The pommel, a faceted wheel, is a shape encountered
in the Leppaho Viking swords, a group of swords excavated from Viking graves
dating from 980-1000.
The crossguard is of an early form, which the
Vikings referred to as Gaddhjalt [spike hilt].
The blade is designed for the cutting style of
fighting used during this period and has a fuller running 2/3 the length
of the blade.
Our version features:
A hardwood handle, wrapped in leather.
The cross guard and pommel are solid steel, polished
and fitted onto a full tang that is peened at top of the pommel for strength
and durability. And is how many of the originals were fitted.
The scabbard is made from wood then wrapped in
leather with a solid steel end cap.
KEY FEATURES:
-
This sword features wood scabbard wrapped in leather
with polished steel accents.
-
The handle is wood, wrapped in leather.

Maximilian
Sword & Dagger
Maximilian I, 1459–1519, Holy Roman emperor and
German king
IP-036, IP-046 "Maximilian Sword and Matching
Dagger"- Maximilian loved both arms and armor and actually designed some
armor that has been named after him. He also never held back from
a good fight. In 1479, King Louis invaded the Netherlands where he
was met by Emperor Maximilian. In a short battle the French Calvary
defeated the Imperial Horse, but in the end the field was held by the Flemish
infrantry, with the Emperor fighting on foot in their midst. This
beautiful sword and dagger with central fullers is not only great
to look at but great to hold.
KEY FEATURES:

This sword features wood scabbard wrapped in leather
with polished steel accents. (New pictures coming).

Wallace Scottish
Claymore(History Lives)
IP-068 "Early Claymore"- "The Wallace Sword"
William Wallace and his band of lowland scots routed an English force of
50,000 at Stirling Castle in 1297. This impressive sword with it's
straight steel cross guard is a predecessor to the later Claymore that
had the down-sloping guard that developed in the late 15th century.
The legend of William Wallace will continue to live on with this sword.
-Why you ask is this sword more than some Wallace
Claymores? It comes with a full length top grain leather scabbard
and the cross guard and pommel are solid steel, not nickel plated brass
as on some. -
KEY FEATURES:
-
Improvement: It is more historically accurate in
look and weight and also the way it is put together. As you can see
from the above right picture the tang runs all the way through the pommel
and then it is peened (mushroomed) to hold it in place. Historically
this is the way most swords were assembled.
-
Full length leather scabbard is included.

"Maintz" Pattern Blade Roman
Gladius Sword
(History Lives)
Most Early versions of the Roman Gladius
were wasp waisted with a long point that combined cutting power and stabbing
ability in one handy weapon. Early Roman Swords from the first century
b.c. display a 'waisting' of the blade to improve balance and a long, narrow
point. Even later versions (like the Pompeii pattern) were not
waisted and also had a shorter point but were just as effective - and easier
to make. Both swords served side-by-side for many years and it was not
uncommon to find 4th century Legionnaires carrying either models. The gladius
is known as "the sword that conquered the world". It features a full
tang construction, high carbon blade, hard wood handle. High polished
steel spacer at the bottom of the handle for strength and durability.
A wood scabbard, wrapped in leather is included.
Note: The blade
is flat. That is not a fuller in the picture. The blade is
flat then tapers to the edge.

Knights Riding Sword, Type
XV1
(History Lives)
According to Ewart Oakeshott. "Records of the
Medieval Sword", page 151.
An identical one is shown on two early 14th century
effigies in Germany. (i), of Arnold I Langraph of Cleve, + 1320 in Stiftskirche
at Cleve, and (ii), of one of the hero-figures, c. 1308, in the Rathaus
at Cologne. Not only are hilts of the swords on these figures exactly
the same as this sword, but the size is too,, more proof (if any more is
needed, which it shouldn't be) that these short swords were not made for
boys, or archers etc., but for knights and in this case, great
nobles.
KEY FEATURES:
Based off an original sword pictured in "Records
